The Pakistan Youth Parliament (PYP), in collaboration with the Pakistan Institute for Parliamentary Services (PIPS), successfully co-hosted a National Seminar on Parliamentary Practices and Democratic Norms under the PIPS Parliamentary Studies Initiative of the National Parliament.
Bringing together 115 youth leaders from all federating units of Pakistan, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan, the seminar provided a diverse and inclusive platform for young people to deepen their understanding of parliamentary democracy and develop the knowledge and confidence required for meaningful civic participation.
Enriching Sessions on Parliamentary Democracy
The seminar featured three interactive sessions focused on key aspects of Pakistan’s parliamentary system:
1. Constitution and Parliamentary Practices
2. Legislative Process
3. Working of Committees
Through these sessions, participants gained valuable exposure to parliamentary procedures, legislative mechanisms, democratic values, and the functioning of committees. The program encouraged young leaders to become more informed, engaged, and responsible participants in Pakistan’s democratic journey.
Oath-Taking Ceremony
A significant highlight of the event was the Oath-Taking Ceremony, during which the Secretary Senate of Pakistan administered the oath to newly inducted members of the Pakistan Youth Parliament.
The ceremony represented a renewed commitment to democracy, constitutional supremacy, national integrity, and responsible youth leadership, reinforcing PYP’s mission to prepare young people for meaningful participation in public and parliamentary affairs.
Distinguished Guests and Recognition
The Chief Guest, Mr. Asim Khan Goraya, Executive Director, PIPS, addressed the participants and emphasized the importance of parliamentary values in strengthening and sustaining democratic institutions. He later distributed certificates to the participants in recognition of their enthusiasm and commitment.
Mr. Muhammad Abu Bakar, President, Pakistan Youth Parliament, presented souvenirs to the Executive Director and distinguished panelists, including:
- Mr. Muhammad Rashid Mafzool Zaka, Director General Research, PIPS
- Mr. Hammad Khan Marri, Joint Secretary, Senate
- Mr. Abdul Nabi Solangi, Deputy Director Legislation, PIPS
In his address, President Abu Bakar expressed his gratitude to PIPS for its continued efforts toward educating, engaging, and empowering young leaders. He highlighted the importance of initiatives that equip youth with the knowledge and tools needed to contribute meaningfully to the parliamentary process and strengthen democratic culture.
Appreciation and Coordination
President Abu Bakar extended a special vote of thanks to the PIPS Research Team for its dedication and efforts in organizing the seminar. Special appreciation was extended to Mr. Asif Abro, Assistant Director Research, for his excellent coordination and moderation of the program.
Empowering Youth Through Parliamentary Engagement
Through initiatives such as this, the Pakistan Youth Parliament continues to create meaningful opportunities for young people from across Pakistan—including remote areas and smaller regions—to connect directly with democratic institutions, understand parliamentary processes, and develop the skills required for responsible leadership.
By bringing youth closer to Parliament, PYP and PIPS are helping nurture a generation that is informed, engaged, confident, and committed to strengthening Pakistan’s democratic future.
