Technology is now a part of our everyday life. We use it for studying, working, communication, shopping, banking, and many other things. Technology is also important for the future of Pakistan.
Pakistan has many young people who are interested in technology. But we still use a lot of technology made in other countries. We need to give our young people more chances to learn, build, and improve technology in Pakistan.
The National Aerospace Science and Technology Park (NASTP) can play an important role in this area. NASTP works in areas such as aviation, space, IT, and cybersecurity. It also aims to bring industry, universities, and the government together for research and development.
I had the chance to visit NASTP Islamabad as a Pakistan Youth Parliament delegate. The visit helped me understand how technology and research can be connected with real problems and future needs.
#### NASTP and Technology Innovation in Pakistan
Pakistan has many talented students. Many study computer science, engineering, electronics, artificial intelligence, and other technology subjects.
But studying from books is not always enough. Students also need practical experience.
NASTP can help create a connection between students, universities, companies, researchers, and the government. This can give students a chance to see how their knowledge is used in real life.
For example, a student may learn about computers at university, but working on a real project can help that student understand how the knowledge is used outside the classroom.
Pakistan needs more places where students can learn, try new ideas, and work with experienced people.
This can also help Pakistan move towards technological self-reliance. We should not only buy and use technology from other countries. We should also develop our own skills, products, and solutions.
#### Aerospace and Space Technology
Aerospace is not only about planes. It includes areas such as electronics, communication, computers, engineering, and other technical work.
Space technology can also help us with problems on Earth.
Satellites can provide information about crops, water, weather, floods, and the environment. SUPARCO says that space technology and satellite data can be used in areas such as agriculture, disaster management, water resources, and environmental work.
For example, satellite information can help monitor areas affected by floods. It can also help farmers and experts study crops and changes in the environment.
NASTP's work in aviation, space, IT, and cyber areas can help Pakistan build more knowledge and skills in these fields.
The goal should be to develop more technology inside Pakistan and reduce our dependence on technology made elsewhere.
#### Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity
Artificial intelligence, or AI, is becoming more common around the world. It can help people work with large amounts of information and solve different problems.
Pakistan is also working on AI development. The National Artificial Intelligence Policy was approved in July 2025. The policy focuses on areas such as AI skills, research, adoption, and responsible use of AI.
NASTP can give students and researchers more chances to learn about AI and work on real projects.
Cybersecurity is also very important. Today, many things are done online. We use the internet for banking, education, shopping, communication, and business.
This also means that our information needs protection.
Pakistan needs people who can build technology and also understand how to protect computers, networks, and data.
#### Research and Development
Research and development, or R&D, is important if Pakistan wants to make its own technology.
A good idea does not become a useful product in one day. It may need testing, equipment, money, and help from experienced people.
NASTP's official mission includes research, innovation, and development in aviation, space, IT, and cyber technologies.
Universities can also play a bigger role in this work. Students and teachers can work with companies and research centers on real problems.
This can help students learn more than what they find in textbooks. It can also help researchers turn their ideas into things that can actually be used.
#### Technology Can Create Jobs
Technology can give young people new ways to earn money.
Many Pakistanis already work online in areas such as freelancing, e-commerce, graphic design, digital marketing, software, and other online services.
The Pakistan Economic Survey 2025–26 reported that ICT export remittances reached US$3.38 billion during July–March FY2026. It also reported that technology freelancer exports reached US$856.3 million during the same period.
These numbers show that the digital sector can create opportunities for young people.
Young people should not only look for jobs. They should also get chances to create their own products, services, and small businesses.
NASTP and universities can help by connecting students with companies, experts, researchers, and startups.
More internships and training programs can also help students understand how companies and research centers work before they enter the job market.
#### Giving Rural Students and Girls a Chance
Technology opportunities should not only be available in big cities.
There are many talented students in villages and small cities. Some of them do not have good internet, training centers, or people who can guide them.
I come from a rural area, so I understand how difficult it can be for students in villages to get the same opportunities as students in big cities.
This is why technology programs should also reach students from rural areas.
Online training, scholarships, internships, and mentorship can help students who cannot easily travel to major cities.
Women and girls should also be given more chances to study and work in technology. With good teachers, mentors, training, and safe places to learn, more girls can become part of Pakistan's technology sector.
#### Problems We Need to Work On
There are still some problems that Pakistan needs to solve.
One problem is that research needs more money and support. A good idea may need equipment, testing, experts, and funding before it can become a real product.
Another problem is the gap between universities and companies. Students may learn many things in university but may not get enough chances to work on real problems.
Young researchers and startups also need support. Many young people have good ideas but do not have enough money or guidance to continue their work.
We also need to make sure that technology opportunities are not only for people living in Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, or other large cities.
Students from villages and small cities should also be included.
#### What Can Be Done?
There are some simple steps that can help.
1. Collaborate on real-world problems: NASTP and universities can give students real projects related to education, agriculture, water, health, transport, cybersecurity, and the environment.
2. Support ideas and research: Students and researchers should get more support, including testing facilities, equipment, experts, and funding.
3. Expand internships: More internships can help students understand how companies and research centers operate.
4. Include rural students: Online classes, training programs, scholarships, and mentorship can assist students who cannot easily travel to major cities.
5. Encourage women in tech: More girls should be encouraged to study technology through good teachers, mentors, training, and safe learning environments.
6. Measure performance: We should evaluate results by tracking how many students get training, how many new ideas are developed, how many startups are created, and how many jobs are made.
#### Conclusion
NASTP can play an important role in Pakistan's technology future.
It connects different areas such as aerospace, space technology, AI, cybersecurity, research, and business.
But technology is not only about machines and computers. It is also about people.
Pakistan has many young people with talent and ideas. They need chances to learn, practice, and work with experienced people.
My visit to NASTP Islamabad helped me see why it is important to connect universities with real work.
If universities, companies, researchers, startups, and young people work together, Pakistan can develop more of its own technology.
The success of NASTP should not only be seen in buildings or machines. It should also be seen in students who learn new skills, ideas that become useful products, startups that grow, and jobs created for young people.
